Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent, not‑for‑profit, industry‑funded body that supports the Queensland building and construction industry. CSQ doesn’t deliver training directly—instead, it partners with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to subsidise training for workers, employers, apprentices, and industry stakeholders.
About CSQ Funded Training
Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding subsidises the cost of construction industry training to build workforce capacity through targeted skills investment. Funding typically covers between 75% and 100% of course costs and is paid directly to contracted RTOs like Harness. Eligible participants working in the Queensland Building & Construction or Civil Construction industries can access subsidised qualifications, safety and short courses, and high-risk work licences. Funding is available for new entrants, existing workers, and those currently under-employed or out of work in the industry.
CSQ Funding Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for CSQ funded courses depends on your employment status and connection to the Queensland construction industry. You may qualify if you are:
- Currently working in the building or construction industry
- An eligible apprentice or trainee
- Recently unemployed but previously employed in construction
- Looking to re-enter the industry with updated skills
CSQ has specific criteria for different programs, and students must provide evidence of identity and employment to apply. For more details on who is eligible for CSQ funding, please see our frequently asked questions.
What Does CSQ Funding Cover?
CSQ funding reduces the cost of approved training programs, including short courses, high-risk licences, and full qualifications. The level of funding depends on the course category, but typically includes:
- Subsidised fees for accredited construction-related courses
- Funding for skills upgrades, refresher programs and industry tickets
- Support for workers needing additional competencies for employment
While CSQ funding covers a significant portion of the training cost, participants are responsible for any remaining course fees, including co-contributions set by CSQ.
