BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management is completed over 12 months. Harness has tailored it through the choice of electives to suit those working in business as well as those in higher risk industries such as oil and gas, mining, construction and transport. It is valuable for line managers, leading hands, production supervisors and team leaders across a range of operational environments.
This is a competency-based qualification: the focus is on understanding the theory and then applying it in your working life. When applying, consider how you want to approach your study and the role your organisation will play in supporting you, as subsidies may be available to eligible applicants or their employers.
You will be expected to demonstrate your skills across a range of predictable and unpredictable situations, and to analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.
This qualification comprises twelve units of competency: five core and seven electives, selected by Harness Energy to reflect the needs of leadership roles in high-risk industries. Students complete all twelve units — there is no individual elective selection required.

Course Prerequisites
You must be employed to enrol. No other course prerequisites apply.
You will need a computer and reliable internet access to attend the virtual workshops and complete online learning between them.

Core units are the predetermined units every learner must complete, and it is recommended you start with these. The elective units are selected by Harness Energy from a longer list of options, chosen on the basis of client and industry feedback as the most relevant for medium to high risk sectors and for people building their management skills.
You complete all twelve units — there is no individual elective selection required.
You may be eligible for Queensland Government subsidised training through the Skills Assure Supplier (SAS) program via a Career Boost traineeship. Eligible participants pay a co-contribution of $880, or $352 concessional. The fee for service price is $2,999. All fees are GST-free.
