Training Prerequisites

Training Prerequisites

This mine site safety supervisor course (also known as MSSS, S123, S1 S2 S3 or G189) includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to be able to perform the duties of a supervisor in the resources industry. A supervisor of workers on a mine are required to hold the three (3) units of competency as specified by the Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee.

Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:

  • Risk assessment and management
  • Incident investigation
  • Communicating information
  • Negotiating skills

Training and assessment is conducted at Harness Energy Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency will be issued:

Under Reg. 84 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 (Qld), these competencies are to be refreshed at least every five (5) years.

NOTE: Statement of Attainment will be issued by Competency Training Pty Ltd (RTO 31299)

Course Prerequisites

This course is designed for persons working in the mining and resources industry who want to become Mine Site Safety Supervisor. It meets the requirements of a Supervisor in the Resources Industry as per s.56 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and s.51 of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld).

A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.

All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:

  • Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots preferred)
  • Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
  • Long work pants

Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.
