Introduction
If you’re working in a high-risk work environment, our Low-Voltage Rescue Training certificate is the course you need to prepare yourself for emergency situations. Whether you’re working as an electrician or you’re in a role works around live electrical equipment, then it is paramount that you are familiar with the rescue procedures, safety practices, first aid skills, and CPR training to respond. Our nationally accredited Low-Voltage Rescue course provides the practical training, skills and knowledge required to rescue a person in contact with low-voltage live electrical conductors and equipment. Participants will learn or refresh their understanding of the equipment, including the LV Rescue kit and equipment, along with the steps to perform a rescue from a live LV panel.
During the LVR training course, you will learn from trainers who bring in-depth knowledge and training experience in the relevant rescue procedures. This creates an engaging environment as you face practical assessment of an electrically hazardous situation and perform low-voltage rescue procedures without putting yourself or others at risk.

Introduction
Course Details
Learn to respond to rescues involving a live low-voltage (LV) Panel. This course is considered one of the mandatory requirements for electricians to refresh their practical skills annually. It is also relevant to associated workers who may have to address issues involving low-voltage electricity. The course includes the latest nationally recognised units of competency, and Harness delivers this course in a structured way.
Given the nature of the content covered in this LVR training course, the course delivery mode is in-person, and no online learning options are available. This LVR course requires physical fitness, with participants showcasing their practical demonstration skills and visual interpretation skills as part of their risk assessment.
There are important prerequisites and mandatory requirements that apply to this LVR CPR course. These mandatory requirements include the completion of the HLTAID009: Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR training. We cover both units during this LVR course because you also need to have Basic Life Support Training, which the Perform CPR Certificate provides, and you require the LVR Certificate. Please see the requirements section below.
The Low-Voltage Rescue section of the course includes:
Prepare to perform rescue procedures from live LV panel, which involves
- Insights and learning about hazards and risk control measures for specific work functions and work areas are identified and obtained.
- Electricity isolation, tools and emergency equipment safety checking and placement.
- Low-Voltage Rescue Kit and Equipment
- Learning about the obligations of those involved as an employer and staff member
Carry out rescue from live LV panel training involves
- Compliance with workplace procedures and work instructions to manage risks, accessing and isolating the LV panel, and methods to remove a victim, where necessary, from contract with live apparatus.
- Assessing and potentially treating of the victim, including flash burns, CPR and other relevant injuries. Seeking assistance from emergency response services through to securing the areas
- Workplace procedures for applying CPR if required at the site and gaining access to treatment by a medical professional if necessary are followed, and applying any other security or worksite access control
The CPR course component of the LVR course is undertaken first and involves substantial practical aspects:
Recognise and assess the situation.
- Make sure that you and anyone nearby are safe before assessing the condition of the person needing help.
- Determine whether they require cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and call for emergency services.
Observe and Practice actual CPR procedures.
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation following the guidelines set by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Frequently Asked Questions
In principle – if you meet all the requirements for the LVR training, you can just undertake the LVR component. However, you should note that the currency of the LVR and CPR course is 12 months. If you have a valid Perform CPR training certification from a few months ago, you may need to do your CPR course again before your LVR runs out.
The LVR CPR course will cover the necessary first aid training to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an injured or unconscious casualty who may require rescue from a live LV panel. In addition to your low-voltage rescue kit, performing low-voltage rescue CPR is an important skill to possess.
DRSABCD is an acronym that represents the key steps to follow during an emergency response to ensure safety and effectiveness. It is an important part of first aid training and stands for Danger, Response, Send for Help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, and Defibrillation. During our LVR CPR training, you will learn the details of each component and how to apply these first-aid protocols to your work environment.
CPR Training is a prerequisite for LVR Training and is an annual requirement. The CPR training is a crucial part of your first aid knowledge and encompasses the responsibilities you require to perform low-voltage rescue CPR in an emergency situation.
A Low-Voltage Rescue Kit is an essential safety tool designed to protect and assist individuals working near or with a live LV panel. This lifesaving kit typically includes insulated gloves, a rescue hook, a torch, signage, and other vital equipment for a safe and effective rescue. In the unfortunate event of an electrical incident, having a Low-Voltage Rescue Kit on hand can make the difference between life and death, as it allows trained personnel to respond swiftly and safely.
These kits are crucial if you are required to perform a rescue from a live LV panel and are specifically tailored to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Whether in industrial settings, commercial facilities, or even educational institutions, a Low-Voltage Rescue Kit is a critical component of any comprehensive safety plan.
Yes, this LVR training course teaches a number of practical training processes that are crucial in LV panel rescue procedures and first aid delivery. The nationally recognised LVR CPR course covers a basic introduction on how to deal with an unconscious casualty, how to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to formulate a DRSABCD plan, and how to use personal safety equipment and rescue equipment. Additionally, the low-voltage rescue course covers risk management processes, safety practices, and low-voltage rescue procedures. Once you successfully complete this course, you should have the real-life practical skills to implement risk management processes and perform low-voltage rescue CPR in emergency situations.
No other first aid courses are required to participate in the LVR certificate. The only prerequisite is the HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course, which must be completed annually. The UETDRRF004 – Perform Rescue From a Live LV Panel is a nationally recognised course that covers the first aid principles that other first aid courses detail. As part of this course, first aid is taught for situations involving accidental electrocution. This course specifies the mandatory requirements for performing first aid in the context of transmission, distribution, or rail work functions.
While this nationally recognised course excludes overhead lines and underground cables, it is relevant to work conducted within proximity to electrical panels. It is present in industries including electrical trade, construction, and distribution, transmission & rail work functions.
