Confined Space Refresher Training – RIIWHS202E

While a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment (RIIWHS202E) does not have a formal expiration date under the Australian Qualifications Framework, industry best practice and Australian Standard AS2865 recommend refresher training every 2 years.

Most major worksites in the mining, construction, and energy sectors in Queensland will not accept a ticket older than 24 months. Additionally, the Confined Spaces Code of Practice 2021 states that retraining should be provided as appropriate for the specific workplace to ensure skills remain current.

To maintain your site currency and ensure you are working under the most recent safety standards, we recommend completing this half-day refresher course every two years.

The Confined Spaces Code of Practice is an approved code of practice under section 274 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the WHS Act). It applies to anyone who is a duty holder in this area. It covers workplace procedures that are mandatory from a legal perspective when performing hazardous work.

The associated assessment tasks for this course include a written assessment consisting of safety knowledge questions and practical demonstrations. The student completes written documents required for entry permits as part of the official form process.

This refresher course is delivered face-to-face at our training facility in Gladstone. While you should have basic digital literacy skills and internet access to navigate the enrolment process and complete online forms, the course training is delivered in-person. Please ensure you have received all the learning content and requirements on the ‘Important Course Requirements’ page prior to attendance to avoid significant delays.

Training to work in restricted spaces is a significant shift from a normal working environment. Our practical sessions are designed to simulate poor physical environments to ensure you are ready for the realities of the field. Because these simulations impose additional physiological demands, such as restricted movement and heat, it is essential that all participants have the physical capability to perform the tasks safely.

Because safety in restricted areas requires hands-on experience, we provide face-to-face training rather than a purely online learning program with online courses. While you will need a computer, mobile phone or other electronic device to complete your enrolment and induction, you won’t need them to access learning resources during the course itself. We believe the best way to prepare you for the field is through practical, in-person instruction at our facilities.
