Our IWCF Drilling Well Control Program builds on the basic principles covered in IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 2 to extend your prior knowledge exponentially across well control and enabling you to prepare for or continue in supervisory positions. Designed for those in a variety of roles engaged in well shut-in operations, well design and the high-order drilling decision-making process, the content of the course takes the topics you will studied at Level 2 IWCF certificate to the next level. We emphasise teaching for strongly applicable learning outcomes and is a key reason we have been placed on the world stage as a leader in Well Control. Your training with us will give you enviable insights and real-world applicable experience from practicals using our exciting dedicated simulator.
This Level 3 IWCF Drilling Well Control program covers off the following drilling and well control key topics:
- Well Control principles and procedures
- Hydrostatic, formation and fracture pressure
- Primary and secondary Well Control
- Subsea factors
- Barrier concept
- Emergency drills
- Causes of kicks including loss of hydrostatic pressure, gas cutting,lost circulation, swab and surge effects and tripping
- Kick warning signs and kick indicators
- Circulating system
- Influx characteristics
- Shut-in procedures
- Well control methods including kill sheets, calculations, driller’s method and wait/weight method
- Well control during casing and cementing
- Well control equipment including blow out preventers (BOPs), choke manifolds, auxiliary equipment, testing and BOP control systems
Once you successfully complete this course, you’ll receive a certificate. It is an IWCF certificate of completion that is valid for 2 years.
Successful completion of the assessments at the end of the course is based on achieving a 70% pass mark in each assessment of the course. However please note that at Harness, we also like to honour those who achieve over 90% across the board!
Harness Energy (RTO 40521) is accredited and audited by IWCF to be able to deliver this technical Oil and Gas industry training.
Course Prerequisites
Pre-registration with IWCF and provision of your 6-digit IWCF Candidate Registration (CR) Number is required and completion of Level 2 Drilling Well Control training with IWCF – see course links on this page for more information.
