Frequently Asked Questions
The main difference is that the refresher training is just that; refresher training. It is not intended to take the place of the full Working at heights training course. Since the refresher training is undertaken in half a day, the theory is reviewed at a high level and it is during the full course that all elements of the theory are thoroughly expanded on. The Refresher training also covers a shortened theoretical knowledge assessment and the practical is based on one primary practical exercise. This differs from the full day training which includes a comprehensive knowledge assessment as well as several practical exercises. Both trainings review the Risk Assessment, safe working methods related components.
Working at heights is a high risk activity, and a leading cause of serious injury in Australia. Anyone who, in the course of their work – eg builders, painters, general construction, mining and oil gas maintenance workers can be exposed to the risk of falling. This can include individuals, other staff or equipment – all of which can be a hazard when working at heights. With any learning you are at risk of loosing it over time thus the refresher training is important as it provides a safe environment to review your understandings, and practical skills.
Refreshing your Working at heights Training is recommended at 2 year intervals – or as indicated, within 3 years, by your working site. Currency is extended for a further 2 years through doing this refresher course. It is suited to those who are more likely to regularly undertake heights work.
