Introduction
The Ticket for Overhead Gantry Crane Operation is an accessible course that provides you with the statements of attainment covering the overhead gantry crane. With broad industry application you will learn to safely and competently operate a pendant controlled overhead or Gantry Crane. During the course, you will learn to plan and prepare lifting operations, how to operate the Gantry crane to move loads and maintenance and clean-up tasks. This is the Crane Ticket that is relevant to you if you will operate a gantry or overhead crane with 3 or less powered operations – where the hoist and raise/lower is considered one operation. Our primary facility in Perth has on-site Overhead Cranes 24×7 and you benefit from plenty of hands on time as well as the expertise of our crane experts to learn from.
It is Important to know that this is different from the HRWL training – which is relevant if the crane has a permanent cabin or control station or is remotely controlled and has more than 3 powered operations. For these crane types you will need to do the high risk work licence training for Operating a Bridge or Gantry Crane – due to the more substantial operations of this type of overhead crane.

Training Prerequisites
This Gantry Crane / Overhead Crane course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to operate an electric gantry or overhead crane with three (3) or less movements (south/north, east/west, up/down) for lifting and shifting loads.
Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:

Training and assessment is conducted at Harness Energy Training facilities. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

Course Prerequisites
This course is suitable for those who are required to operate a gantry or overhead crane for lifting and shifting of loads, primarily in the resources and infrastructure industries.
NOTE: If slinging of loads is required then Dogging Licence holder needs to be in place to sling the load.
A basic to moderate English language, literacy and numeracy skill level is required.
All participants are required to wear the following minimum PPE to enter our facilities:
- Fully enclosed shoes (steel-capped boots)
- Long-sleeve shirt with high visibility
- Long work pants
Additional PPE may be required depending on the course requirements.

An overhead crane is also called a Bridge Crane and incorporates a bridge beam and end carriages. It is capable of travelling along elevated runways and having one or more hoisting mechanisms arranged to traverse across the bridge.
A Gantry Crane involves a bridge beam and is actually supported by legs mounted on end carriages that travel along runways on the surface or deck level and have a crab with one or more hoisting units arranged to travel across. Gantry cranes can have fixed runways with or without rails.
