Harness has designed a competency-based five (5) day face-to-face course for Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety (WHS) A culture of success in WHS relies heavily on the intelligent and positive interaction between workers and their environment. The Certificate IV has been developed to provide adequate skills and knowledge suitable for HSE advisor, safety supervisors and safety officer roles.

Competency-based learning: 
We offer a unique training proposition by incorporating your existing skills, knowledge and experience into the training program. 

Group A: for learners with prior relevant exposure to WHS [please submit your resume for eligibility check]
Group B: for learners without sufficient prior exposure to WHS. Additionally to the 5-day course, you are receiving mentoring and support over three (3) months, required to complete the workplace project developed for people who lack prior experience in the field. 

Human Factors: 
A culture of success in WHS relies heavily on the intelligent and positive interaction between workers and their environment. Importantly also, the development of a confident and cohesive WHS professional that is purposed and skilled with assisting in the implementation of a positive WHS culture is a key element. At Harness, our focus on human factors allows participants to increase awareness of effective safety attitudes.

Learning Outcomes:

  • BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety

Learning Methods:

Students will undergo intensive training in a classroom environment, providing best possible chance to succeed with their learning outcome. Students will be required to perform home-work and projects during the course.

Students will obtain the knowledge and skills needed to better implement and support an organisation's WHS management systems, prepare workplace personnel for dealing with WHS issues, ensure legislative requirements are understood and applied in the workplace, implement WHS initiatives and processes that support organisational WHS specifications.

This course is assessed in a holistic manner incorporating multiple choice workbooks and competency based projects. The project design allows participants to identify areas of improvement in their theoretical knowledge, provide them with the necessary knowledge and assist in the development of their ability to apply this essential skill set efficiently in practice.

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) can be considered for this qualification. 

Course Content

The BSB41419 Certificate IV Work, Health and Safety (WHS) covers the following: 

5 x Core Units of Competency: 
  • BSBWHS402 - Assist with compliance with WHS laws 
  • BSBWHS403 - Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes 
  • BWBWHS404 - Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control 
  • BSBWHS405 - Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems 
  • BSBWHS406 - Assist with responding to incidents 
5 x Elective Units (chosen by Harness through extensive Industry consultation): 
  • BSBWHS408 - Assist with effective WHS management of contractors 
  • BSBWHS409 - Assist with workplace monitoring processes 
  • BSBWHS410 - Contribute to work-related health an safety measures and initiatives 
  • BSBCMM401 - Make a presentation 
  • BSBWHS407 - Assist with claims management, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs 

CSQ Funding Available

Harness are excited to announce that funding is available for this course for the 2020-21 period. This funding comes via Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and for this reason it is only available to certain Queensland-based individuals or companies in the building and construction industry that meet certain eligibility criteria.

About CSQ

CSQ’s subsidised training assists in building the workforce capacity of the building and construction industry through targeted skills investment. CSQ programs provide funding to eligible RTOs to deliver building and construction qualifications and short courses to new entrants, existing workers and those who are currently under-employed or out of work in the building and construction industry.
