Introduction:

Harness offers a Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road training course which seeks to provide the knowledge of dangerous foods road transport legislation and the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG 7).

TLILIC0001 - Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road 

This course is a mandatory step in applying for a dangerous goods driver licence. 

A dangerous goods drivers licence is required for the transport of dangerous goods in the following cases: 

  • If the goods are in a receptacle with a capacity of more than 500L
  • If there is more than 500kg in a single receptacle 
  • In the case of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), where the total capacity of all IBCs is more than 3000L or where IBC is filled or emptied while on the vehicle. 


Please note: this course is only one of several criteria for obtaining the licence, and additional State non-competency related requirements must be satisfied to meet the licensing requirements. Depending on the jurisdiction, these may include: 

  • Minimum age limits 
  • Drivers licence 
  • Suitable driver traffic history 
  • Satisfactory medical report 
  • Criminal history checks 

Upon successful completion of the training, and once all of the necessary requirements are fulfilled, students must complete an online application for a dangerous goods driver licence.

Learning Methods:

The mode of delivery for this course is face to face in a classroom environment as well as significant practical elements outside of the classroom. 

In the delivery of this course, our trainers focus on providing an individualised adult learning environment that considers the learner’s employment history and experience in the industry. 

Theory is presented in a supportive learner centered environment designed to provide functional theoretical knowledge that is directly applicable to real world tasks.

Learning materials provided include the Harness student handbook and participants will be advised in advance of attending the course if there are any materials to be provided by them.

The assessment for this course has been designed to assess the individual to the Australian Qualification Framework, relevant Training Package, Australian and Industry expectations, as well as Commonwealth and State Legislation.

Throughout the Harness course, our trainers will cover off the below operations ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both practical and theoretical elements.

Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road covers all aspects of the ADG code and relevant legislation including:

  • Classification
  • Marketing 
  • Documentation 
  • Stowage and load restraint 
  • Segregation and computability
  • Responsibilities of all individuals involved.


The dangerous goods classes covered are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9.
