PMASUP245 - Break and Make Flanged Joints Using Hand Tools | Non-Accredited - Hydraulic Torquing & Tensioning of Equipment

This Flange Management – Break & Make Flanged Joints consists of two courses levels. Level 1 (Flange Integrity Level 1) part of the course includes the theoretical and practical components to meet the skills and knowledge required to make and break flanged joints with manual bolt-up methods to ensure the integrity of flanges on pipework and vessels in process plants.

Our Flange Management Training Level 1 is suitable for those who are required to break and make flanged pipe joints using hand tools, ensuring isolations re in place, undertaking checks and inspections, and identifying problems. It is not suitable for where pneumatic, hydraulic or powered torquing tools are required to be used.

Flange Management Level 2 (Hydraulic Torque & Tensioning of equipment) focuses on Flange management with the theory and practical safe use of hydraulic torque and hydraulic tension tooling. This part of the course is specialised and involves specific equipment use on the day.

Training and assessment is conducted at Harness Energy Training facilities and the option includes for groups. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.

Participants will gain the following skills and knowledge:

  • Tool types and applications
  • Flange dismantling/breaking
  • Inspecting flange components
  • Flange management procedures
  • Gasket identification
  • Assembly instruction
  • Relevant parts of ASME PCC-1-2013 Guidelines for pressure boundary bolted flange joint assembly


Level 2 of Flange Management is focused on the Hydraulic Torquing and Tensioning of Equipment. This is a practical day involving using and assessment of the use of key hydraulic equipment which is on a specially designed training rig to ensure knowledge and skills are applied correctly in the workplace and per company requirements.

This is a non-accredited but specialist course.

Key Flange management training on Level 2 includes:

  • Hydraulic torquing – for Bolt tightening process
  • Hydraulic tensioning – for bolt tightening methods

Upon successful completion of this course, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency will be issued:

Level 1 Training Outcome: PMASUP245 – Break and make flanged joints using hand tools

Level 2 Training Outcome: The non-accredited section for Hydraulic Torquing and Tensioning of Equipment is Marcem endorsed. You will receive a Certificate of completion for this non accredited course section
